LAKE TRAIL COMMUNITY SCHOOL SEISMIC UPGRADE + PARTIAL REPLACEMENT  Courtenay, BC

The reimagining of Lake Trail Community School embraces an innovative and flexible design to support today’s modern pedagogical approach to collaborative, student-centered and project-based learning. Originally slated for a seismic upgrade, the existing 1950’s middle school evolved into a partial replacement project as the gym and library were recent additions. Abundant natural light provides a healthy and invigorating learning environment. A grand stair atrium located at the heart of the school connects all principal learning areas and promotes social learning. Sliding glazed partitions define the main learning suites and offer flexible studios for groups to collaborate, and large open spaces to foster community and celebration. The school includes dedicated spaces for science exploration, art, music, technology, drama, and Indigenous Education.
