KEATING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SEISMIC UPGRADE + ADDITION Saanichton, BC

This project comprised a four-classroom addition and new Library + Resource Centre addition with a complete seismic upgrade of an eight-classroom block. The project began with the development of a PDR to identify strategies for the seismic upgrade while addressing the space needs for the school’s projected increase in student population. The new spaces feature ample natural daylighting, vibrant colours and natural materials to promote an invigorating learning environment. The inclusion of a new Makerspace Room encourages student exploration and creativity. A heavy timber glulam roof structure comprised of Douglas fir provides structural integrity and a warm aesthetic.
