ROYAL OAK MIDDLE SCHOOLÂ Victoria, BC
This replacement middle school was built on the property adjacent to the existing school. The project required a fast-track schedule to meet the school’s growing student population, and to minimize disruption to ongoing classes and operations at the existing school.
The new school supports a 620-student capacity, and features state-of-the-art facilities for learning and teaching. Several environmental and sustainable objectives were met for the project, including LEED silver standards, natural daylighting, displacement ventilation, recycled materials, a high efficiency heat pump, and storm water retention. The design exceeds National Energy Code by thirty percent. During evenings and weekends, the school is accessible for community fitness, martial arts, cooking and woodworking classes.
