ADAMS LAKE CIVIC CENTRE Chase, BC
This civic centre houses nine departments over two floors, with common areas facing Little Shuswap Lake. The crucial role that salmon play in the community’s economic plan inspires the language of the building form through shape, colour and texture. The curvilinear layout of the entrance and public spaces expresses the curved form of the salmon tail. The durable, economical and low maintenance corrugated metal cladding echoes the colour of the salmon scales. The planted roof provides excellent insulation and a soft contrast to the building finishes. Breaking through this grassy layer, the form and timber elements of the Council chamber light well echo traditional lean-to shelters.
