Richard has been a licensed professional engineer since 1986, and a partner at Iredale Group since 1992. His work has focused on sustainable community design, and comprises over 150 new buildings and 180 renovation projects.  These include many educational, residential, and community buildings.

Richard’s skills combine an architect’s background in space-planning and an engineer’s knowledge of physical and biological systems. He focuses on designing buildings that function in harmony with nature.  To do this, his projects prioritize energy efficiency and dense landscaping in an effort to close the natural carbon and water cycles.

Richard has lectured widely on the topic of green building design. He is an active member of the Cascadia Collaborative, and has served as Board Chair of the Cascadia Green Building Council.
