SIMPCW COMMUNITY BUILDING

The strategy for the new programmatic additions was to tie them into the existing building utilizing simple form language that could be easily repeated and would assist in calming the overall complex of building compartments. All occupied spaces are now located on perimeter walls with access to natural light and ventilation, while the more utilitarian spaces such as storage and washrooms are located towards the interior of the building. The existing sloped roofs have been either removed or converted into straight parapet walls to better assimilate the multiple components of the ambitious program. A colonnade clad in a rust-like corten steel runs in front of the existing east façade to act as a screen that helps tie the various façade shapes together.
